Holiday Weekend Fun
Sorry for no updates this holiday weekend, but Jack and I went away for the holiday to have a little fun. Unfortunately because Jack had not met his 10 days of isolation from other rescued dogs since his rescue, so he was not able to attend the Atlanta Dog Squad Adoption event held this past Saturday at Petco in Roswell.
But we made the most of it and played a lot and worked on his house and obedience training. For a big puppy / young dog, Jack has a lot of energy and wore me out before I wore him out (which was my goal). He would play fetch for 20 hours had I not put a stop to it. Since we were in a secure location, I was able to let him off his leash and run around with me while i jogged. Every so often something would catch his eye and he'd run off, but he'd always come back and jog by my side.
I guess he's getting the hang of it all... and who woulda' thought that just 2 weeks ago. When he had the run of me.
As for the house-training, that is coming along great also. It's been almost 5 days since we have had any incident inside the house. I've got him to trained to the point is all he has to do is jump on the front door once or twice and I know he wants to go out to do his thing. Every time he as jumped at the front door, I take him out within 5 minutes, and he always does his duty within minutes of getting outside. So at least he's not tricking me into just taking him outside. Apparently he knows the difference. Another week of this (no indoor accidents and jumping at the door) and I'll be confident he is fully house-trained.
He's also getting better on the leash and following along side of me, with the exception of seeing other dogs or butterfly's, who he'd prefer to go after and play with.
I'm so happy with the progress that I'll be sorry to lose to him personally, but the truth is that I know he needs to find a permanent loving home and family that will be suit him.
