Once we got the vet, it was all routine and I was told I could come back around 3 or 4pm to pick him up.
Here I was expecting the worst when they brought him out to me. To my astonishment, he was full of energy, wagging his tail and trying to play with the cats in the lobby cages. Plus, he didn't even need one of those dog cones because the Dr. said the surgery didn't bother him at all. I'm looking at the paperwork to see what was done as the one of the assistants at the office recapping what I was reading by telling me about the surgery and all the shots, vaccinations, anesthesia..etc.
I'm amazed what the poor pup went through today and yet Jack acted like he just had a play date with other dogs today.
So on the way home, I'm driving about 5 mph so I don't get him car sick since couldn't be feeling well after what he just went through. Yet he just enjoyed hanging his head out the wear window catching a nice breeze.
Then once we get home I fed him - which he scarfed down in about 3 minutes - and then he started running around playing with his chew toys.
So here I am trying to keep him calm and relaxed (as per the doctor's orders after surgery) and he just won't listen. He's just doing his own thing, so the only way I can get him to calm down is to go to the bedroom and put on movie, so he'll lay down and relax next to me. That worked for couple hours, but it's 10pm now, and just like clockwork, Jack is trying to run around the place like it's a park. He's also hopping around trying to surprise attack his chew toys. With him being this hyper right now, all I can do is shut every door so he can't run wild. To keep him calm for the next few hours, I'll be forced to just scratch behind his ears and belly, to try and keep him calm.
All I can say, is this dog is a trooper in every way. And he's full of surprises. I still can't figure out if surgeries have been perfected, or if they just gave him some incredible meds, OR if he's just one hell of dog.
I'm guessing it's the latter.
